HOW
TO REGISTER
Who
can register to vote?
Anyone who meets the following criteria:
- Shall be
a citizen of the United States.
- Shall be
eighteen years of age.
- Shall be
a resident of the Commonwealth and precinct where the
voter votes. Residence requires both domicile
and place of abode.
- Shall be
registered to vote.
- Must not
have been convicted of a felony or had his or her rights
restored by the Governor or other appropriate authority.
- Must not
have been adjudicated to be mentally incompetent or
have had his or her competency reestablished.
How do I register to vote?
You
must complete a Virginia Voter Registration Application
or a National Application. Forms are accepted in
person or by mail. Once your application is processed,
you will be mailed a voter card which tells you where
to vote on election day.
Where
do I register to vote?
Voter
registration applications are available at:
* Voter Registration Offices in Virginia
* Government Agencies in Virginia, including:
Post Offices
Public Libraries
DMV
Social Services
When
can I register to vote?
You
can register to vote any time of the year except 29 days
before an election.
Do
I have to register by Party?
NO.
Virginia does not require party registration. You
may be asked to declare your party preference if there
is a dual primary. |
