ORDINANCE FOR PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION FOR DISABLED VETERANS
WHEREAS,
the Wise County Board of Supervisors has the authority
as set forth in Section 58.1-3506a(17) to set
apart as a separate class of property, one automobile
owned and regularly used by a veteran who is 100%
disabled as certified by the department of Veterans
Affairs.
Said property shall be a separate class
of property and shall constitute a classification
for local taxation separate from other classifications
of other tangible property so long as the statutory
definition as defined in 58.1-3506A(17).
WHEREAS,
the person applying under this article shall provide
a written statement to the Commissioner of the
Revenue or other assessing officers from the Department
of Veterans Affairs, that the veteran has been
properly designated or classified by the Department
of Veterans Affairs, so as to meet the requirements
of this section and verify that his/her disability
is service connected. Further, the person applying
under this article shall file annually with the
Commissioner of the Revenue forms to be supplied
by Wise County verifying that such disability
is continuing.
NOW
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Wise County
Board of Supervisors hereby ordain that one automobile
of a qualified veteran is declared to be a separate
class of property and shall constitute a classification
for local taxation separate from other classifications
as set forth in Section 58.1-3506A(17).
Further, it is ordained that Wise County
shall levy tax on the subject property not to
exceed that applicable to the general class of
tangible personal property.
The
Wise County Board of Supervisors, by this Ordinance,
grant the tax relief of $100.00 toward levies
on one motor vehicle owned and used by disabled
veterans as set forth above.
