The Wise County Board of Supervisors met in a Workshop meeting on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 6:00 PM in the Board of Supervisors meeting room located in the Wise County Courthouse. The following members were present:

ROADS & HIGHWAYS
Supervisor Bates stated that a guardrail is needed on a portion of the road on Dotson Creek past the old Porter Mines before Green Hollow.
Chairman Kilgore asked that the status of getting a speed sign on Coeburn Mountain by the new Justice Center.
IN RE: PUBLIC HEARING – TAX EXEMPT STATUS FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
A public hearing was duly advertised for this date to receive citizens’ comments regarding a proposed Tax Exempt Status for Habitat for Humanity.
There being no public comments regarding the proposed Tax Exempt Status, the public hearing was closed.
IN RE: PUBLIC HEARING – BUILDING CODE ORDINANCE #2-1975 AMENDMENT
A public hearing was duly advertised for this date to receive citizens’ comments regarding a proposed amendment to Wise County Building Code Ordinance #2-1975.
There being no public comments regarding the proposed amendment, the public hearing was closed.
IN RE: PUBLIC HEARING – ORDINANCE AMENDING INTEREST ON DELINQUEST TAXES & SETTING REFUND INTEREST RATE
A public hearing was duly advertised for this date to receive citizens’ comments regarding a proposed amendment to Ordinance on Interest on Delinquent Taxes & Setting Refund Interest Rate.
There being no public comments regarding the proposed amendment, the public hearing was closed.
IN RE: DRUG COURT –ADULT PLANNING UPDATE
Suzanne Kerney-Quillen, gave an update on the progress that has been made on the 30th Judicial Circuit Adult Planning Drug Court Program. She provided the Board with details regarding the Program and how it has helped those who have participated in the program. She thanked the Board for its financial support which has resulted in a great savings for the County.
Ms. Quillen explained that all those who work with the program are volunteers with no additional pay. In coming months, a budget will be developed with the intent of hiring staff to help manage the program.
It is hopeful that state legislatures will act to officially certify the program as a drug court which will open doors to additional funding.
